Circuit Grand Bayou Solo ONE March 14th 2010

We want to invite everyone and thier friends to the next three “solo” events on March 14, and May 9 and July 18, 2010. The gates and registration will open at 10:00 am and the track will be open for track walks until 11:00 am. Cars and trucks will be “quick teched” from 10 am until 11:30. “quick tech” forms and information sheets can be sent to you with a request from info@circuitgrandbayou.com

At 11:00 am we will be hosting a “chalk talk” in the drivers lounge. The chalk talk will give participants some helpful hints on navigating the track in a smoother, safer and quicker manner. The drivers meeting will follow at 11:30 and the first car out will be at noon. We will run until 4pm.

The concession stand will open from 11:00 until 1:00 at each event.

Delta Trailer Day Aftermath

Belated report:

After being thwarted by weather, Mardi Gras, and football, Delta successfully completed its 2009 trailer day.

The first part of the operation was to remove and sort through the accumulated detritus of the past few seasons. We are saddened to report the demise of the following items:

A small army of broken pop-up tents
Several spools of ethernet cable (more on that in a second)
Two generations of obsolete timing and scoring system and several spools of obsolete cable
The old broken PA system
A PVC pipe cable bridge that hasn’t been used in over three years
The bulletin board for the side of the trailer
About 8 garbage cans of general trash

So much more room now!

We’ve also made some significant improvements elsewhere, which will make set up and tear down much faster:

Trailer is now wired for power. One plug does it all.
The new PA system is integrated into the trailer.
Timing, scoring, and registration are now 100% wireless.

As we saw from the March event, setup and teardown is much quicker.

Thanks to Benson, Christopher, Mitchell, Walt, John, Bill, Bruce, and Joel for their hard work in getting the trailer ship-shape. Special thanks to Mitchell and Snee Chemical for letting us work in their warehouse and out of the cold.

More upgrades in the pipeline . . . stay tuned.

Delta Solo Series Championship, Update 2

After 2 Events, these are the standings for the Delta Solo Series Championships. This is our first time using Axware to manage the Series points, so if you see something wrong, let us know.
Here are the Class Results from the 2nd 2010 Event, current Class standings and PAX Championship points.

Robert Wetzel is our current leader in the PAX Series, followed by husband Jeff. They have been consistently fast drivers last year, and we’re excited to see the Pensacola natives leading our series.

Reminder: Delta’s Big Solo Weekend 3/6-7/2010

We’ve got a big Solo weekend planned!

Saturday’s annual Novice Autocross School is almost full, and we have a great curriculum planned.

I’ve printed a nifty pocket-sized notebook for the students and instructors to keep notes for the day.

Sunday is Solo Event #2 for 2010. See you at the track!

The region will be hosting a trailer maintenance/cleanup day on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at Snee Chemical Company (5565 Pepsi Street, Metairie, LA). The event will start at 9:00AM and go until we are finished.

February 2010 Regional Executive Report

2010 has started out quite nicely. Our city is getting the best publicity it has ever seen, our Saints have finally made it to the top, and our February event went off without a hitch. Some late-year purchases last year helped to make the event a bit better. Benson Young did allot of research and put allot of his personal time into formulating one of the most sophisticated timing systems on the Gulf Coast. It is now 90% wireless, providing us reduced setup and cleanup times while ensuring delay-free event. Also, a newly-purchased PA system helped to keep the spectators and participants better informed of event schedule, times, and where they stood in the rankings. 59 drivers participated with 28 of them being weekend members (potential future Delta members).

For the remainder of 2010, I would like to ask all Delta members to focus on expanding the region’s membership. Talk to friends, neighbors, acquaintences about the joys of autocross. Bring them out for ride-alongs or help them attend their first event. Talk to new drivers at events and encourage them to continue participating. Our school in March is the PERFECT place for people to get started with autocross. Please try to pass the word about this school wherever you can. Also, make sure they people understand that they don’t need the latest wizz-bang coilovers or titainum exhuast to have fun and stay competitive. Too many non-competitors believe that cars have to be modified to be fast. Just look at the Wetzels. Jeff was our PAX Champion for 2009 and Roberta took the PAX win for the February 2010 event - in a stock Honda S2000. Jimmy Jummonville came in 2nd this month with a completely stock Miata. Jeff Schaadt (RRR) came in 2nd at Nationals in 2009 with a completely stock Mini Cooper. If you hear new members talking or posting things like “i will come out when I can afford coilovers”, clarify it for them and encourage them to come out and drive their car as it is. I will be sending each new weekend member an email after each event encouraging their continued particpation as well as watching the local discussion boards and encouraging participation there.

It takes allot of effort to keep the club going and, in the past, the burden of that effort has resided on the shoulders of just a few people in the club. I encourage each of you to get involved this year and see where you can assist the Board with the day to day and strategic business of the club. The next occasions that members can help is with the annual trailer cleaning/organizing. This year, it will be held on February 27th at Snee Chemical (thanks to Delta member Mitchell Mark for donating his facility for this work) at 5565 Pepsi Street in Harahan. The day will begin at 9:00AM and will continue until done. Delta will be providing lunch and refreshments for all volunteers. Edit 2/7/2010 12:03pm: clean up a few things, and ran the “Re-Accept Staged Timing Data” and “Reset All Run Numbers” in Axware. That looks like it cleared up the issues.
