Hurricane Gustav

As the storm approaches, I ask that all members heed the warnings of the local and state authorities. It looks like all of Louisiana will be affected. If you have any needs, please let me know how the club can help. We have a thread going on Autoxforum for this already. Members are checking in and updating their status. Friends in Gulf Coast Region have offered resources (Pensacola, Mobile, etc).
Stay Safe and Good Luck.

Delta wins grant to develop holographic cones

Posted by bky  Published in Press Release

DELTA member and uber computer geek Brian Harper was able to get DELTA on the Omega tester list (like VHS OMEGA is better than BETA). The base of the cone will contain two key components. The first component is the sensors that calculate the rate at which the “cone zone” was impacted. It will determine whether the cone was knocked down or just moved a few inches. The sensors will then determine whether or not a penalty has been assessed. The second component is the projector. There is actually a microscopic cone inside the base encircled in mirror dust. This image is then magnified and projected up through the base. The cones will have the ability to be weighted so that cones that in a high hit area can be weighted and will be less likely to move. When a penalty has been assessed the projected cones will be enlarged and changed from ORANGE to PINK. This will allow for a quick count of penalties and well deserved humiliation for the offending driver.

Delta Board of Directors approves merger with Cenla Region, 8-to-2

Posted by darren  Published in Press Release

In an emergency meeting, the Delta BoD voted in favor of merging with Cenla Region, 8 votes to 2. Poor financial health of both clubs was cited as the primary reason, with declining membership in post-Katrina New Orleans also playing a role. “It makes sense, because everyone is moving out of New Orleans to Baton Rouge anyway” says Communications Chair Brian Harper. Delta Regional Executive Benson Young, who fiercely opposed the motion, resigned immediately after the votes were counted. “I quit, I’m joining Gulf Coast Region” said Young. Board Member Damon Cuccia also voted against the measure, “because Benson told me to”. Cenla RE Nathan Brandom will serve as leader for both regions.

When presented about the possible backlash from Delta members, Cenla’s Chris Carver, who initiated the hostile takeover, said “I didn’t ask.”…

Delta Region in SportsCar Magazine March 2008

Posted by bky  Published in News, Press Release

Delta was recognized for our contribution to the Navy Marine Corp Relief Society back in November. Proceeds from the event, along with a club donation, were made to Shirley Pechon at the event. Delta Region hosts an annual charity event to benefit the NMCRS as a thank-you for use of Belle Chasse Naval Air Station during the year as a Solo site. Charitable contributions from the club were put on hold after Katrina, but a return to the site and active participation allowed Delta to resume the tradition in 2007.

Delta Volunteers Needed for Charity Race

Posted by bky  Published in News, Press Release

gbrs_walter1.jpg
The Delta Region has volunteered to supply workers for the Grid and Paddock areas during the Grand Bayou Charity Challenge, which benefits Unlocking Autism. We need roughly 6 people to volunteer to come out on Saturday, April 12th, and work these two areas. The main responsibility of these workers will be to ensure the safety of pedestrians in the paddock and grid areas, maintaining the real estate that has been guaranteed to certain organizations (basically, no one parks where they shouldn’t) and organizing the cars such that they are able to get to the grid on time.

Media Solo Challenge: Driver and Car Profile, Benson Young

Posted by bky  Published in Press Release

Driver: Benson K. Young
About: Regional Executive of Delta Region (2005-present); Licensed Solo Safety Steward, has instructed Solo schools for Delta, Cenla, and Gulf Coast Regions. Graduate of Evolution Driving School, Phase 1 and Phase 2. Began autocrossing in 1989, and is a top finisher in many regional competitions. Most Recent Accomplishments: 2007 TLAC SM2 Champion, 2007 GCR SM2 Champion.

Car: 2001 Honda S2000, Spa Yellow Pearl. 2.0L VTEC,
6-speed manual, rear-wheel drive roadster.
Engine: 200rwhp@8300RPM (Corr Performance Tuning, Port Allen)
AEM V2 intake, Fidanza aluminum flywheel, ACT HD clutch.
Suspension: Ground Control Sleeves on Eibach Springs
380 lbs/in Front, 340 lbs/in Rear (+75%F, +15%R), Cobalt VR pads.
Wheels and Tires: 17×8+48 front ASA FR1, 235/45-17 Kumho V700
17×9+63 rear ASA FR1, 275/40-17 Kumho V710
Dynamics: Fast but very tricky to drive smoothly. Steering is very sharp, the gearbox has no equal, and the brakes are powerful. The engine is strong but the powerband is narrow and high on the tachometer. The suspension isn’t forgiving, and the back of the car steps out quite easily.
History: won 25+ regional and statewide trophies in the last two years. Holds the current track record at EvoTrack (1:32.2)

Ideal Co-driver: someone who can smoothly drive out of a slide, because this car is prone to snap oversteer. This is the most difficult car to drive out of the press pool.
