Meeting minutes:

There was a good turnout with fourteen members in attendance. 

1.  The meeting started at 7:00 PM opening with Mike Poupart thanking the Delta volunteers for all their work with the Charity Challenge.  Specifically Jack Heaton his fiance and Johnny Woz worked grid and paddock and helped keep the event running smoothly.  It resulted in a $30,000 donation to the event’s charity.
2.  Darren Darby (RE) discussed the need for a trailer maintenance day.  It was scheduled for Saturday, June 11 at Snee Chemical.  Details and directions to follow on AUTOXFORUM, delta-scca.org and a membership mailing.
3.  Discussed the club’s future with New Orleans Motorsport Park.  Darren spoke with Mitch Wright (NMS Track Manager) just a few minutes before the meeting.  No new news for the club other than an August event at NMS will not be possible.  Will continue to work with NMS and will try to get an event on site in 2010. 
4.  Darren and Rodney Prejean spoke about upcoming drift events on July 16 (full day) and November 5 (short program)
5.  Darren solicited for volunteers to start picking up some of the jobs required to pull an event off and manage the club.  Walter Smith volunteered to be the August Event Chair.  Jack Heaton volunteered to handle weekend memberships.  Other requested training so that they could help out in the future. 

Meeting ended at approximately 8:00 PM.

2010 has started out quite nicely.  Our city is getting the best publicity it has ever seen, our Saints have finally made it to the top, and our February event went off without a hitch.  Some late-year purchases last year helped to make the event a bit better.  Benson Young did allot of research and put allot of his personal time into formulating one of the most sophisticated timing systems on the Gulf Coast.  It is now 90% wireless, providing us reduced setup and cleanup times while ensuring delay-free event.  Also, a newly-purchased PA system helped to keep the spectators and participants better informed of event schedule, times, and where they stood in the rankings.  59 drivers participated with 28 of them being weekend members (potential future Delta members).

This month, as we transition into the spring season, we welcome three new members to the Delta Region family; they are Bradley Fitzhenry from Avondale, William Richard of LaPlace, and Susana Rodriguez from Bridge City. We remain steadily constant with over 150 members and are always welcoming new talent.

Proving you have to grow older but not necessarily grow up, the following members are celebrating their birthdays this month: John Walter, Jeremy Ousley, Marcos Zervigon, Joe Ricard, Jack Wade III, Thomas Himes, George Harrelson Jr., Joseph Lagarde, Stephen Cook, and James Grunewald.

On Sunday at EVOC: I got a call out of the blue. Cellular reception there is sketchy at best, but I caught the phrase “My grandfather drew the Deltagram artwork posted on your web site….”
