Another OUTSTANDING Delta event!!! This time of year presents beautiful weather making the event that much more fun. While there was a very low turnout, each driver received more than their money’s worth for the day – 7 runs plus unlimited fun runs.
Benson Young was his usual smack talking self, confident with his new sway bar and tire setup. Fortunately for him, he lived up to his smack and laid down FTD with a very fast 52.729. Of course he did this late in the day, stealing Max Bales previous FTD of 52.760 – robbed again. The top five were rounded out by Darren Darby (53.588), Tony Shepherd (53.934) and Erik Johansen (54.417). Erik’s runs had the most entertaining of the day as the car appeared to be having an epileptic fit through the cones J. Tony Shepherd and Brett Mount remained consistently fast and took 1st and 2nd PAX respectively.
The newest drivers out were quite impressive and were led by Bernadette Douroux in her brand new Lexus IS350 taking 1st place in Novice with an impressive PAX corrected 52.201. She was followed by James Adams in his beautiful modded IS300, Kurt Ours in a 2008 MX5, and Vishnv Perenkil in his 2002 WRX.
Class winners were Ian Brook in AS, Walter Smith in BS, Tony Shepherd in CS, Damon Cuccia in GS (driving the crap out of Floyd Miles’ V6 Mustang), Max Bales in BSP, Darren Darby in CSP, Charles Weiss in ESP, Jimmy Jummonville in FSP. Sanford Keller brought out is Factory Five Cobra and took fist in BM while Jack Heaton was back for another win in STX. Bill Simms had a clean day (meaning nothing broke on his Alfa) and won SM just .307 ahead of Dean Gagnon in his Roush Mustang. Erik Johansen took SM2 while Laurel Gagnon won ESPL. And AJ Thurman took his Jr. Kart around the course in 62.388 for the win in Jr. Kart.
Sunday was even better. Again, beautiful weather and a short list of drivers resulted in lots of seat time for everyone. The end result was Justin Victor beat Dean Gagnon in a best of 3 final races for the King of the Hill Mirrorkhana Title. The official races were followed by even more entertaining grudge matches for the rest of the day. Notable “grudge” battles were Eric Trigg and Darren Darby, Eric Trigg and Benson Young, and Tommy Thompson FINALLY won a race when he took on Eric Trigg (of course Eric was driving an EVO on street rubber and Tommy had a R-compound shod Miata). Tommy – Little AJ Thurman is still talking trash about his win on Saturday over you J
