Brian Harper, our brave Communications Chair, has our ListServ up and running. I know, what is a ListServ? A ListServ is a program that allows people to send email to one address, which resends that message to all of the other subscribers to the list. In our case, there are only a select few people who can email the entire group (mainly Brian). Any message he sends to the ListServ will automatically go to everyone on the list.
Why not just use an email client like Outlook to handle it? A few good reasons. One, the process of adding and subtracting names from the list is easily controlled by the subscriber. If you want to receive these emails, you can just send an email to the ListServ. Unsubscribing is just as easy. No person has to edit the list, which allows the club to provide better services (communications) with fewer people. Second, we can add new recipients to the list in bulk. For example, after an event, we can add the email addresses of anyone not on our list, and let them opt-out of future emails. New members are also easy to add.
To be added to the ListServ:
add@delta-scca.org with the subject of ADD. Click here if you are lazy.
To be removed:
remove@delta-scca.org with the subject of REMOVE. Click here if you are lazy.
Spam:
To prevent being caught by your anti-spam filter, put “communications@delta-scca.org” in your email address book. Most email applications will automatic all messages from someone already in your address book.
